Sir,
I have the honour to acknowledge
the receipt of your despatch No.28 of
the 27th of January last and to approve
the grant of a gratuity of $150 to the
widow of Mr R. Simmons, Custodian of the
Recreation Ground at the Happy Valley.
2. With reference to your request that the previous sanction of the
Secretary of State to grants of this
nature may in future be dispensed with,
I desire to state that I have no objection to cases, in which the amount proposed to be granted is less than $300,
being dealt with by the Governor, without previous reference to the Secretary
of State, though they should still continue to be reported for his information and subsequent approval.
